I am setting up an MBA Admissions Consulting Practice. We’re only working with 10 candidates this season, aiming for a 100% strike rate. - Himank

Why am I doing this?

  1. I am really good at this.
  2. I love coaching candidates, chiseling their applications to bring out their best, authentic version.
  3. This process feels intimidating and extractive to many candidates, especially ones with low scores. My approach attempts to change that.

What makes me really good?

As they say in Business Schools, Show, don’t Tell. This is a text I received from an applicant we worked with:

“Hi Himank and Manisha. I received admit from Marshall😊. I can not thank you enough for helping me. You both came as angels when no one was ready work with me due to very low GMAT score.”

<aside> 💡 My real value-add is helping those candidates succeed who feel they have a low GMAT or don’t have the golden ticks (MBB, IITs, etc.). I don’t measure success by the absolute brand of school I help a candidate crack into but by enabling their way into a school that they felt was a delta higher than their weight. That delta is my work.

Why do I love coaching applicants?

It’s not a transactional exercise for me. When I work with a candidate, I start with the assumption that this person is going to make it. So I am not working to just get them through the door, I am preparing them for the journey after they enter the door. MBA is a grueling process which may give rise to feelings of insufficiency, self-doubt and imposter syndrome because of the pressures and competition you’re exposed to. A deeper aspect of my work is to enable you to see your own capabilities so you don’t forget them when you’re onboard. I find this work fulfilling.

What’s my approach?

No Formulas.

You are a different person. I will not help you fit in, but lean into what makes you you. We will not be solving for What the MBA admission team wants to hear. Rather we’ll dig into what it is that you really want (need) to say - the story that truly authenticates you - and contextualize it for the eyes and ears of the admissions team.

No Bureaucracy.

Since I am planning to work with only 10 candidates this season, we won’t be doing work about work, i.e. no filling up long excel sheets to tell me about your childhood, talents, work accomplishments, GPAs, parents professions, etc. before we think about your story. Instead, we’ll have a conversation and get straight to it.

No Standardized Process.

Your needs are different from the other candidates. Others might need just one call to set them up for their first essay. Maybe your GMAT score is low and you need to really, really compensate with a super memorable essay and need three calls. Others might have started working on their application well in advance, you just have a couple weeks to go before the deadline. We’ll talk and together figure out the rhythm to which we’ll dance.
